The method

A pass count says nothing. What matters is where the player receives, where he plays the ball and what it changes for the team. Every analysis answers those three questions, match after match.

01

Official match data

Every action is recorded with its position on the pitch: passes, duels, recoveries, runs. About 1,600 actions per match, with no app ratings and no outside opinions.

02

Passes sorted by intent

Every ball played falls into one of 4 categories: moves play forward, keeps the ball, plays back, lost. With the starting zone (9 zones), the direction (8 directions) and the metres gained.

03

The direct opponent

The player is compared, match by match, with the opponent in the same lane. Same pitch, same minutes, same indicators: the fairest comparison there is.

04

Video, synced to the second

When footage is available, key sequences are annotated and linked to the numbers. The player sees the action the data talks about.

05

The player's feedback

After each analysis, three screens: performance, confidence, fatigue, what felt easy or hard. When perception differs from the data, the gap is flagged to the analyst and the agent.

06

Measured goals

A measured starting point, a target, and progress tracked match after match in “My season”.

02

The 4 pass categories

Moves play forward

The ball gains ground towards goal, breaks a line or enters the final third.

Keeps the ball

The ball stays with the team without a clear step back: useful to hold possession.

Plays back

The ball goes back towards his own half: safety, or no forward option.

Lost

The ball is lost. We look at where, and under what pressure.

What the data does not tell

Match data measures neither the pressure at the moment of the pass nor off-the-ball movement. That is why the analysis also relies on video and on the player's own feedback: data alone is not enough.
